Not all stops are defined or priced the same. Most are billable. Some are not.
Any deviation from the direct route to some intermediate point that results in increased distance traveled and/or additional time required to complete the trip constitutes a billable stop.
Courtesy Stops are not billable.
A Courtesy stop is defined as:
A quick personal stop (normally 5 minutes or less) directly en route to buy coffee or newspaper, etc.
Elite drivers provide courtesy stops to our customers at no charge.
No Free Jump:
A passenger getting out of the car at any place other than the final destination may trigger a stop charge.
Stop Pricing Guidelines:
Except for Elite, the NYC Black Car Industry generally overstates stop pricing by use of full zone-to-zone calculations.
Since 1990 Elite has employed our own proprietary algorithm using a vector matrix developed in house to calculate prices based on actual distance traveled.
Both standard Elite rates and stop pricing is available online at https://EliteNY.com.
A stop en route is priced differently than a stop not in en route. Stops not en route incur price adjustments for time and distance.
In Manhattan: Stops begin at $15.
In the Outer Boroughs: Stops begin at $25.
Out of town stops begin at $30 for stops in the same town.
Out of town stops en route are 50% of the rates to the town but no more than $50 per stop.
Stop for SUV service is 1.25 times Sedan’s stop price.
